Off Plus Camera 2012 Summary

For the 5th year in a row a bunch of passionate geeks organised one of the youngest and most ambitious film festivals in Europe. Krakow is beautiful in April.

This year, I managed to watch quite a few films which I started reviewing below and will carry on reviewing above. The schedule of screenings was so tight that I was reaching the cinemas at the last minute and only could catch the first aisle seat in either 1st or 2nd row. That resulted in a peculiar cramp in my neck which is still there.

Several esteemed guests came to visit – to promote their films, to take part in the Main Competition, as members of the Jury in the Polish Competition.

The evenings were starting quite late as usually the last screening of the day (with Q&A’s included) did not end until well after midnight. In the end a mixture of guests and festival staff+volunteers ended up in the night club not far from the Main Market Square. To talk, exchange experiences, discuss future projects and finally to dance long into the night. My feeling is that several of the new acquaintances will turn up to be fruitful in the future – as new projects, new friendships, new films. Keeping my fingers crossed for that! Cannot wait to go to Krakow again next year!

My first @Raindance

I believe this is the first Raindance with temperatures in their late twenties. At the same time this is my first Raindance experience.

A brief summary of the first 24 hrs goes like this: so far I’ve seen 5 films. 1 proper arthouse, 1 phenomenal cinematic orgasmic experience, 1 indie with no handrails, 1 big budget studio from Balkans and 1 serious Scandinavian. The reviews will follow shortly.

About the festival: it is my first festival on such a small scale and yet with such massive ambition and programme. Am disappointed that some of the features only get one (ONE!!!!) screening, but on the whole the size of the festival allows for proper ‘mingling’ in the festivalgoers+filmmakers own sauce which is great!

Off Plus Camera films watched

The International Independent Cinema Off Plus Camera Festival took place between April 8th and 17th. Over a week, two weekends included, screenings held from noon till midnight. Also on rooftops, which was a great idea, but a little optimistic for Polish April weather. However, with blankets and hot tea and most of all – great films, everyone was happy.

Krakow was incredibly windy and cold the first few days. The festival was great despite both the wind and the rain hitting from time to time. The people were great, the venues had lovely atmosphere and it was an honour to host so many distinguished guests. A lot of the festival info can be still found here: http://offpluscamera.com

I haven’t seen a lot of films, but some I have. Will post a brief summary for each of them.
