Review: “The Calling”

Just attended the London premiere of “The Calling” by Jan Dunn.

This was the opening gala for the Rushes Soho Shorts Festival.

The film:

Very slowly getting to the speed needed in order NOT to leave the cinema. A few people did leave within the first two quarters of the hour.

Very good costumes. Nice settings, good colours. Can’t say anything about the music as I can’t remember it.

Picturesque.

Topic: Delicate.

The film begins as difficult or even boring, but then turns out to be more and more ineresting and sucks the audience into the hoover of curiosity. In the end: a very warm message given out.

Excellent young actress: Emily Bleecham, great Brenda Blethyn.

All in all: 4 stars out of 6
